History


The School started with a trust created by its founder the late Maharaja Hari Singh Ji. He wanted to ensure that the children of the poor and destitute of Jammu region should be educated and looked after. The trustees handed over the management of the school to the leading educationists of the century the D.A.V College Managing Committee New Delhi in 1967

Location

A School in the Nature’s lap – Nagbani is known for its sylvan beauty. Chenab’s ice cold water, clean fresh air and the cover of greenery makes learning a joyful experience in the nature’s lap at Nagbani. 
Maharaja Hari Singh Agricultural Collegiate School is ideallylocated at a distance of 10 kms from the temple city of Jammu at a place called Nagbani. The school is the focal point of this place and therefore commonly and popularly referred to as 'Nagbani' School.

The Crest

The School Crest depicts a person holding an open book in front of him flanked by two sheaves of wheat on either side.The school was initially conceived as an Agricultural College.The logo depicts that thought in the sheaves of grain and the persuit of knowledge in the open book.The motto 'Learn and Live' is given underneath the Logo.


Founder


Maharaja Pratap Singh had no issue of his owns. So after his death in 1925 he was succeeded by his nephew. Hari Singh was the son of Raja Amar Singh . He made primary education compulsory in his area, granted many loans for the schools and scholarships for the schools. He increased the number of dispensaries and hospitals and improved water supply, fire projects and electricity.


He took major steps to eradicate prevalent evils like female infanticide, child marriage, woman trafficking and untouchability.
He made two other revolutionary social reforms – one to prevent juvenile’s smoking and other was the removal of legal disabilities on the marriage of Hindu widows.
He was a progressive rules of British as well as Indian Union. After the freedom in august 1947 there was a question about the accession of J&K.
